Diabetes Update 102: Stress

January 1, 2007

My most recent articles are:

  • My New Diabetes Blog Articles
HealthCentral.com published seven of my new diabetes blog articles in December:

    1. A Tale of Two Books. In my spare time this week I read a couple of books. Both books are about diabetes. Both are new and both are very well written. But that is where the similarities end.

    2. Telemonitoring Proof. A new study shows that people with diabetes who have the advantage of online feedback from health professionals did a whole lot better than those who see their doctor in office visits. I was not surprised, because I have experienced that myself. But what did surprise me was that the study also showed that an online diabetes control program can save time for their doctors. Everybody wins.

    3. Free Drugs. You can find 17 tips about finding free and low cost prescription drugs. Sorry, no free recreational drugs.

    4. Our Daily Meds. A new government website already has the prescribing information for more than 1,600 prescription drugs that the FDA has approved. You can find it on DailyMed. This site is a part of the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

    5. A Good Endo is Hard to Find. There aren’t enough endos to go around. But sometimes you need to see one. When should you do that?

    6. Antioxidant Foods. A huge study analyzing the antioxidants in 1,120 foods that we eat is now available. It recognizes that large studies of Vitamin E and beta carotene don’t show that they make us more healthy. But whole foods may. The food categories with the highest antioxidant content are spices and herbs, nuts and seeds, chocolate and sweets, vegetables and vegetable products, ready-to-eat cereals, desserts and cakes, and berries and berry products.

    7. Sh! Keeping Diabetes Quiet. If you work for someone else, you might not want to let people outside your family know that you have diabetes. It can get you fired.
Other Articles:
  • From time to time I put great articles that other people write on my website. This month there is a new article that David Spero, the author of Diabetes: Sugar-Coated Crisis  —  Who Gets It, Who Profits, and How to Stop It. His article, which he adapted from that book, is
    The Stress-Diabetes Connection.
