David Mendosa’s Diabetes Blog
The Health Central Network hosts my blog about diabetes at http://www.healthcentral.com/diabetes/c/17/. This is where you can find most of my new articles.Catherine Lee Nord
1937-2007Health Central completely redesigned the site on March 1. Among the many improvements is an easy way to see the entire article at once. This “single page” view gives you an uncluttered look at my articles. The links below are to this view. And if you go into the site in a different way, like through a blog reader, you get to the single page view by clicking on the “print page” button at the bottom of each article or the “Printer friendly” button at the bottom of the right sidebar.
Each month I describe and link my new blog articles here. But there is an easier way to find all of my blog articles since October 2005.
The easiest way to read this and any blog is to use a blog reader. I use Bloglines, as I describe in my blog article, “Reading Health Blogs.”
- My New Diabetes Blog Articles
So far I have written more than 150 articles about all aspects of diabetes there. In March HealthCentral.com published 12 of my new diabetes blog articles:
- In Memoriam. My wife, Catherine Lee Nord, died on March 20 of complications of diabetes. She was 69.
- Resistance is NOT Futile. You may not be able to resist the Borgs. But resistance training can be good for your health and weight and can go a long way toward helping you to control your diabetes.
- You Can Stop Refrigerating Your Byetta.
One of the biggest problems that people had at first with Byetta has just disappeared. You no longer have to refrigerate it.
- Tips for Weight Loss. Here are the successful strategies to lose weight that I have gathered for people with type 2 diabetes.
- The Telemeter Trend. The new trend to wireless blood glucose meters is now in full swing. Here are some new choices.
- Reaching out with Byetta. The people who make and market Byetta are finally beginning to reach out to consumers. Why did they wait so long?
- Misdosing Insulin. If you take insulin, you better be sure that you code your blood glucose meter correctly. A lot of people don't. It might be better to use one of the new meters that you don't have to code.
- A Health Insurance Option. You can get health insurance, even if you have diabetes. Here is another option.
- What’s Wrong with Saturated Fat?. The most common complication of diabetes is the heart. Eat all the saturated fat that you want, if you don’t care about it.
- Nutrition Information in Magazines. Magazines often attack health websites as being incomplete, misleading, or inaccurate. Now it looks like magazines may be just as guilty, if not more so.
- Successful Sleep Apnea Therapy. If you have diabetes, it’s likely that you have sleep apnea too. Here’s how to make sure that you get the therapy you deserve.
- Testing Sleep Apnea at Home. The biggest hurdle in getting treated for sleep apnea may soon be history. That will be great. But I don’t recommend that you wait for it, if you suspect that you have sleep apnea.
- Earlier I wrote about the threat to the birthplace of the man who discovered insulin. Now the threat is even worse.
The author of the article, Dr. Peter M. Banting, is emeritus professor of marketing, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. His grandfather was Sir Frederick Banting’s cousin. Peter is chairman of the Sir Frederick Banting Educational Committee and a founding director of the non-profit Sir Frederick Banting Legacy Foundation. The Legacy Foundation was established as a charitable organization to accept title to the Banting Homestead after its purchase by the Town of New Tecumseth (where Alliston is located). The Legacy Foundation hopes to build a camp for children with diabetes on the Banting Homestead in fulfillment of Edward Banting’s expectation. The URL is

New Glucose Revolution Podcasts:
-
The New Glucose Revolution, by Dr. Jennie Brand-Miller and her associates, is the key book about the glycemic index. Now in its third edition, this book is now well supported by a series of podcasts. The first two are interviews with Dr. Brand-Miller and the third is with publisher Matthew Lore. These are well worth hearing and are readily available at no cost.
If you have iTunes, which is the best music program for either PCs or Macs, you can download the podcasts here. Another way is to capture the RSS feed, which is here. If you use Bloglines, when you set up the feed, at “Blog or Feed URL” enter marlowepub.com/newgr/feed.xml
